- Baby Grayson was born, at 7 lbs 6 oz on July 23rd (4 days before Daddy came home)
- The Husband came home on his boot leave.
My little boy was born at 7:00 pm, after almost 2 hours of pushing, which is a LOT. He had the cord around his neck, so he spent the first day of his life in the nursery as they tried to get his oxygen levels into a normal range. THEN, I was told that he was septic and had jaundice. So we spent a week in the hospital while he got heavy doses of antibiotics twice a day. It was a horrible time.
Funny story though:
When he was born, they immedietly took him across the delivery room so they could get him on oxygen, so I didn't see or hear him; I was busy trying to deliver the placenta and to stay concious. When they finally did get him to breathe and cry, he quacked like a duck. So, in my hazy drugged state, the first words after hearing my son were "Is that a duck?"
Combine that story with the fact that he was a terrible grey/blue color when he was born, Grayson is now my little Gray Duck. In 15 years, when he is dating, all of his girlfriends will hear the story of why I call him "Ducky".
But wait folks; thats not all!
Just as importantly, the husband came back from Recruit Training on the 27th, and it was one of the happiest moments in my life. Because I was still in the hospital, I wasn't able to go to the airport to pick him up. When he got the hospital, he was about a half hour earlier than I was expecting, so when he knocked on the door to my room, I assumed it was just a nurse. So I turned around and there he was, looking like a Marine. It was like seeing a ghost. For four months I had felt him with me but hadn't been able to see him. But there he was, after 16 weeks of being gone, and I just about died of happiness. I had been holding the baby, so I looked at my husband for a moment in shock before I turned, put Grayson in the bassinet and ran into his arms. And we just held eachother.
So he was home for 10 days of leave. Unfortunatly, half of that was spent in the hospital with me, sleeping on an uncomfortable recliner and dealing with my shift in horomones. When we finally got home, there was a short lived period of peace that unfortunatly was ended by the Husband getting Pink Eye, which is apparently pretty common in bootcamp.
Just a lot of frustrating situations and teary goodbyes. Danny is now off to MCT, which has been delayed a week, and then to MOS school. At which point, he will recieve his orders and we will be off to his PDS. Cross your fingers for Camp Pendleton!
I will try to write again soon, but I have found that time isn't exactly free anymore. It has taken me the entire day to write this post; I have been squeezing it in between diaper changes, feedings, and naps. Wish me luck!
